A visitor decides in about three seconds whether to call you or hit the back button. Your homepage doesn’t need to be fancy — it needs to answer a few questions fast and make the next step obvious. Here are the seven things that decide whether that visitor becomes a phone call.
Your homepage has one job
Not to win a design award — to turn a stranger into a contact. Everything below serves that single goal. If an element doesn’t help someone call, book, or trust you, it’s clutter.
The 7 must-haves
- Your phone number, top-right and tappable — on mobile it should dial with one tap.
- A headline that says what you do and where — e.g. “Trusted plumbing in Peoria & the West Valley.”
- One clear call-to-action button — “Get a Free Quote” or “Book a Call,” not five competing links.
- Real photos of your work, team, or storefront — stock photos quietly kill trust.
- Your star rating and a review or two — proof that real customers were happy.
- The services you offer — so visitors instantly know they’re in the right place.
- A fast load on mobile — every extra second of load time loses customers.
Fix these first
You don’t need a full redesign. Start with the phone number, the headline, and one clear button — those three alone will lift the number of visitors who actually reach out.
