Your happiest customers are usually your quietest. They loved the work, maybe told a friend, and never left a review — not because they won’t, but because no one asked at the right moment. Here’s how to fix that.
Why great customers stay silent
It’s rarely unwillingness — it’s friction and timing. The job wraps up, everyone’s happy, and life moves on. By the time it occurs to them (if it ever does), the moment has cooled. Most happy customers would gladly leave a review; they just need a nudge while it’s fresh.
The fix: ask at the peak moment
Ask when the customer is happiest — the moment the job is done and they’re thrilled — and make it one tap. Every extra step or day of delay loses people.
A simple 3-step system
- Text the review link the same day the job finishes — texts get opened and read far more than email.
- Keep it short and human: “It was great working with you! Would you mind leaving us a quick Google review? Takes about 30 seconds.”
- Send one gentle reminder a couple days later if they haven’t yet — then let it go. No pressure.
What not to do
Never offer a discount or gift for a review, never ask only your happy customers privately (that’s “review gating”), and never buy reviews. Ask everyone the same way — Google is fine with that, and it’s what keeps your profile safe.
At Sureway Marketing, we set up simple review systems for small businesses across Arizona as part of our marketing services — so the reviews keep coming without you having to remember.
